Posting ideas for raising $1,000,000 for GKTW

By now you all the idea is to recruit 10,000 people to get 10 friends to each donate $10. If we can do that we would raise $1 million dollars (hence the Power of 10). That's the idea, but in all honesty, we're going to have to pull out all the stops to raise $1,000,000 for GKTW. However we get to the million dollars is fine with us. I wanted to start a thread for people to post other ideas for raising money. Any and all ideas are welcome. No idea is too big or too small. Throw them all out here. I'll start listing some below.

Here are some ideas that I had...

Running Disney Races like Walt Disney World Half Marathon, Full Marathon, Princess Half, Expedition Everest Run, Disneyland Half Marathon, Wine & Dine Half Marathon, and getting people to sponsor me during the run. See if I can get people to pledge $13.10/mile when I run a half marathon and $26.20/mile when (if?) I run a full marathon.

Creating a special day for fans in the Disney Community to all get together to raise money around the country and around the world.

Auctioning off items. Disney collectables that may be in our collections - special items donated by Disney Legends and celebrities.

Last year my daughter took park in a Polar Plunge - they each had their own log-in and were able to see what their total donations were. I'd love to be able to do that, it was nice to see who participated - you didn't necessarily have to do the amount each donated. I'd just like to stick to the 10 for 10 idea and see if I can meet it or do better. Is there something like that going on here??? In that case we sponsored a plunger and were able to enter their name and the donations specifically went to their total.

I thought maybe we could start a group for "kids helping Kids". the kids could have bake sales, lemonade stands, car washes, dog walking... anything kids can do. maybe we could pick a day this summer where all across the nation kids could organize mini fundraisers for Power of 10.

I was at a Perkins where they had a bookshelf of used books that you could purchase. Hardbacks were $2, paperbacks were $1. I bought $6 worth. Very easy way to make some money for GKTW. You could do something like this at a garage sale.

    Hi guys!

My wheels are turning about some ideas. I think my focus is going to be providing some inspiration to the masses of people on the DIS to get involved.

I am passionate about GKTW and if I can dose out just a fraction of that passion - then I think we could light a fire under some people to not only donate $10 - but to become part of the 10,000 that ask 10...That is going to be key...the more people that actually sign up to recruit the 10 people...my personal goal is to "sign up" 10 people that will get 10 MORE people. Or can I find 100 that will find 10 more people. It has to be more than just a quick donation. It has to be a virus.

    Marathon fundraising

    Hi all.
I am not a runner but considering training to walk the WDW 1/2 marathon in 2012 as a reward for getting fit. I am wondering about fundraising that people do in conjunction with these races. I know the Muddy Buddy racers from the DIS did fundraising for GKTW when they raised money in honor of Bob. What is involved with getting a team of WISHers or other Disney fans who are running a WDW race organized for fundraising? How does Disney handle this or are they involved at all? I am totally new to the concept.

    Thanks.

Hi Brandi: I love this idea on so many levels! I was one of the Muddy Buddy runners that raised money for GKTW. We did it on our own. Disney was not involved at all. We set up our own FirstGiving page, and started asking our friends to support us. Let me know if there is any way that I can help you.
