YORK, ME — In October, Hannah Horton, 12, of Eliot, Maine had the tough choice of meeting pop star Justin Bieber or spending a week in Walt Disney World.
The SUNY/Geneseo alternative break service-trip to Give Kids The World hasn't been all work. There's been plenty of time for play as well, and there's so much to do in the Village. Families could easily stay at the Village for the day instead of going to one of the theme parks.
Here the students took time out to play in the life-sized Candyland playground in the Village.
Tuesday, January 11, 2011: Our first full day at Give Kids The World. This is low season at the Village. Over Christmas, the village was filled to capacity with families, but - just as other tourist destinations in Central Florida see a dip in attendance in January, so does GKTW. However, there is a limited paid staff on site at GKTW, so much of the work is done by volunteers.
We were asked to take down the holiday decorations put up in the villas over Christmas.
