I'd like to welcome you to the Power of 10 forums.
Please feel free to introduce yourself so we can get to know you. This is a place where we encourage everyone to share their ideas, successes and stories about their experiences with Give Kids the World and with their efforts to help raise money to support them.
I want to remind everyone that we are NOT directly affiliated with Give Kids the World. They are very much aware of our efforts, but we are a group of passionate Disney fans who want to do whatever we can to support the wonderful work being done by GKTW.
ALL money raised through this goes directly to GKTW. No one involved with the Power of 10 challenge is handling any money. We don't want our efforts taken up with accounting and the work associated with it. Our only goal is to get the word out there to everyone we can reach to let them know about GKTW and to encourage them to donate in any way they feel comfortable. Right now there are three primary ways to donate:
1) Update: As of July 15th, text message donations are no longer supported. It was costing too much money, for the amount of donations coming in. If this changes, we will let you know.
2) FirstGiving.com - http://www.firstgiving.com/disgktw - All donations made through this page are sent directly to GKTW, less a 7.5% processing fee charged by FirstGiving.
3) Send a check directly to Give Kids the World. The mailing address is:
Give Kids the World
Power of 10 $1 Million Challenge
210 S Bass Rd
Kissimmee, Florida 34746
There are other ways you can help out as well. We need people to contribute articles and blogs for our site - if you have a story about an experience with Give Kids the World, or a story about how Disney has made an impact in your life - we want to hear about it. Feel free to post it here on our forums and we'll be able to include it in other areas of the site as well.
Give Kids the World also has an 'in-kind' donation list of items they need to help keep costs down. You can find the list HERE (http://www.powerof10.us/content.php?128-The-Wish-List).
We all know the impact that Disney has made on our lives, and this is a wonderful opportunity to share that with families who need that magic the most. Anything you can do to help spread the word about this effort is both welcome and appreciated.
Now, Let's do this thing!!

This is the most wonderful idea I've heard in a long time...I will do anything and everything in my power to help. Children are our future, and nothing is sweeter than giving them a second chance at happiness.

Happy New Year to Everyone. Looks like I will be mailing the contributions in and saving First Giving fees. No need giving them the 5%.
Happy New Year, I donated! I plan on blogging about it later today. :)

This is an awesome idea. I know several families from here in Indiana that have been there and I have heard their experiences first hand. My wife and I will be helping to get the word out on all the mediums that we have available to us (twitter, Facebook, etc).
Looking forward to doing what we can to help break the ceiling of 1 million.

I am so excited about this! I just signed up, and posted on Facebook so that my friends can get involved, and I also messaged some Disney Podcasters to help spread the word.

Thanks to Pete and Dave and all the others who have worked so hard to get this off the ground. I already texted once myself to donate $10, will send a check directly to GKTW later this week, and plan on spamming everyone on Facebook repeatedly (first post is away) until they donate. Also, I plan on making some flyers to distribute around school with info on donating.

HI!
I am so happy to have heard about this great group! My name is Jessica and I am a huge fan of Disney, Make a Wish and Give Kinds the World. They made my little cousin's dreams come true at a time when hearing her laugh was like a little miracle. Nine years later she is a happy 12 year old with a healthy dose of the Disney bug herself but we can never forget the joy those organizations brought to all of us.
I am so happy to be apart of this group and to start spreading the word. And I'll be sure to get my cousin to join us so maybe her and her mom can do some first hand experience stories for us!
I work with a lot of children's theater groups here in New York so maybe I can tap into that for some advertising, like in one of our programs or something....more ideas will be forth coming!
Blessings and Love,
Jessica

I am excited for this. Does anyone know if I can txt the number from Canada on a Canadian phone? I would rather not lose the 5% to First Giving. It seems a bit steep.

Seriously, I don't see why you couldn't text from Canada, but let me look into it.

Unfortunately, only US Based carriers are supported in the current text to give efforts. We hope to have the Canadian carriers on board very soon.
So the number could be text from Canada, but it would have to be from a US based cell phone.
Sorry I didn't have better news, and hope you can still help out.

On August 5th , 8:30 am we will be holding two events.
First we will be attempting to brake the world record for the largest gathering of people wearing mouse ears. We have been approved through Guinness Book of World Records for this attempt. My Guinness claim number is Claim ID: 366988. The record currently is set at 250 people.
We are looking to smash that record.
This will be an official Guinness attempt however we did not pay for use of the word “Guinness” so we can only say official attempt. At the end of the count we will be doing a drawing for a iPad.
This will be a $5 donation per ticket or 3 for $10.00 with 100% profit going to Give Kids the World.
Then anyone that would like to do the 5K run or walk at 9:00 am to benefit Give Kids the World.
This is on www.coolrunning.com or www.countEars.us
